Harpy Eagle

Suriname is home to many raptor species and we were fortunate to be able to see and photograph quite a few,
from the ubiquitous Snail Kite to the Ospreys that patrol the Suriname river, the Laughing Falcon,
the small Burrowing Owls near the airport and others.

We were delighted to find the majestic and somewhat terrifying Harpy Eagle (above), who posed patiently for us.
They are rare and typically have a large territory, so if you are looking for them they are usually somewhere else.

A wonderful find and a species for our lifelist.

Other Raptors

But it's not only raptors. There are almost too many bird species for one webpage.
Beautiful, spectacular species like the Cock-of-the-rock (below), the dazzling Macaws, Hummingbirds
and flocks of Egrets, Herons and Ibis.

Selecting which pictures to show was not easy, but we did our best.
